Archery Dodgeball…Yes, It’s a Thing, and Yes, it’s Awesome!
When I was first invited to check out “archery dodgeball”, I was a bit hesitant. What would that look like? What would it feel like? Well, I am so glad we gave it a try, because our family had such a great experience! We were laughing, we were working together, we were exercising, it was a blast! Continue reading to see what it is like and check out our list of tips to know before you go.

What Is Archery Dodgeball?
At first, I couldn’t believe there actually was such a thing as “archery dodgeball”. One visit and it is up there as one of the most fun activities we’ve done together as a family!
Unless part of a birthday party or private session, there are up to 20 spots per session so be aware that when booking, if there are less than 20 spots available, you will be playing with additional groups of people.
Step 1: Learn
For the first 15 minutes, each person is given the opportunity to try a couple of times to make sure they have the correct bow size and to experience the feel of the foam-tipped arrows. I was truly surprised by how quickly each family member learned how to aim and shoot their bow and arrow.
Step 2: Gear
Each player is provided a helmet and arm covering. If you’d like to bring your own helmet or armguard, you are allowed as long as the helmet fully protects your eyes. You must use the bows and arrows provided by Denver Archery Games.
Step 3: Play!
To keep things exciting, different games are played for the remaining hour of your session. Dodgeball in its traditional sense (you get hit, you’re out) is played, but there are also many other games so you’re sure to find a favorite. Two we specifically remember were “Zombie Apocalypse” where you are never out, you just switch sides if you’re hit, and “Dog Eat Dog” where it is every player for themselves until you get down to one single person. There were also games where you had to hit a target or catch an arrow, it was fun and kept you moving!
Tips For A Great Experience:
- Go with a group of friends or family!
- Wear light, athletic clothes. I was fine in leggings, but many of our group wish they had been in shorts and t-shirt. It gets hot and you will be actively moving around the whole time.
- Arrive 15 minutes early and fill out your waivers ahead of time, especially if you have multiple family members.
- Prepare yourself – you will probably be sore the next day. I don’t know about you, but my typing on a computer daily did not prepare my muscles for the bow and arrow action or constantly jumping and ducking out of the way 😉
Nerf Wars, Birthday Parties and More!
Denver Archery Games also offers Nerf Wars (for ages 6+), birthday parties, and a variety of other group events (think team building, bachelor(ette) parties, date nights). This would be a crowd pleaser no matter the occasion!
