Bathroom: Yes, there is a restroom building, however it was not yet open for the season. Stay tuned!
Shade: Yes! As you can tell from the photo above, even during the leaf-less winter, the huge trees provide shade over the play structures.
Surface: The younger play area is surrounded by rubber pour-in-place surfacing and the larger play area has wood chips. There is also a sand play area!
Age Recommendations: Thompson Park in Longmont is perfect for all ages! There are two play structures, low and high slides, swings and sandbox – something for everyone!
Inclusive Features: There are a number of inclusive features at Thompson Park making it great for all ages and abilities. The side with rubber surfacing has a low entry climber, hillside slide and many sensory panels, including a scavenger hunt. You will also find a wheelchair accessible merry-go-round!
Swings: There are two belt swings, two baby swings and the “friendship swing” shown below.
Water Features: None.
The nature-theme at Thompson Park is so well done! The play structures have the look of treehouses with leaves overhead, there is an insect scavenger hunt and leaf matching panel, and there are even logs to sit on or climb over in the sandbox.
I saw so many adults and children enjoying this park and see it becoming much more popular as the trees bloom and the weather improves. Please note, it is across the street from an elementary school so it will be very busy at school release time! (I had no idea so all of these pictures were taken on my second trip there. 😉 )
Did I mention the scavenger hunt?! I love these panels because they encourage children to explore every bit of the play structures to find the hidden objects. As you can see below, the “critters” are all over and can lead you through an obstacle course to find them all.

The playground at Thompson Park covers a large space and includes a big sand play area and a variety of fun features, like the merry go round and hillside activities.
Thompson Park has a large number of trees and a lot of great space for playing outside and having a picnic!
