This was a new term for me a few years ago, here’s what I found… A sensory playground provides a solution for children on the spectrum. Specifically designed to meet their needs, a sensory playground offers ASD children the type of sensory input they’re most comfortable with, while fostering enhanced motor skills, balance and coordination. Fun Factory Sensory Gym There are many aspects that make up a sensory playground, including more space between equipment, areas/panels for individual play, and a focus…

Kanemoto, One of the Best Parks in Longmont!
Near the southern edge of Longmont, just north of Prospect, you will find a new favorite place, Kanemoto Park. Not only is the playground fun (and next to a perfect summer pool for little ones), it comes with a bit of town history as well. In 1966, the land where the park currently sits was donated to the City of Longmont by the Kanemoto family. The seven-acre park was named after the patriarch Goroku Kanemoto (1882-1935) who immigrated from Japan in 1910. According to the Longmont Observer, the sons of Kanemoto, Jimmie and George, commissioned the Tower of Compassion (explained in detail below) in 1972 as a symbol of gratitude…

Loveland’s Dwayne Webster Park (aka “the Cannon Park”)
The City of Loveland has a goal to replace playgrounds every 10 years and in 2019, Dwayne Webster Veterans Park was a recipient! With it’s great location along Eisenhower, looking across at Lake Loveland, it is a perfect place to meet up with friends. If you’re meeting someone from Loveland, don’t be surprised if they call it the “cannon park” though because of the cannon just to the north of the play area. Washington Park Playground Looks Completely Different! Love it or Leave it?
I had heard years ago that we should visit the “boathouse playground” at Washington Park in Denver. Little did we know as we finally made it there this fall, it was removed in September 2018! Apparently, that playground had been built decades earlier and the out-dated wooden structure caused safety concerns. Luckily, we missed all of the construction and found a brand new Washington Park playground completely finished. The reason for my article’s title…many rocks around the park had “Bring our old equipment back!” written with chalk. Apparently there are some that miss the old playground 🙁 I’ll let you be the judge – check out the new playground below…
