10 Fun Ways for Kids to Stay Active while Stuck at Home

Let’s continue with the second half of our ideas for what to do with kids at home…

6 – Dance Party

When is there not a great time for a dance party?! We like to choose silly songs (ever heard “It’s Raining Tacos”?) and just have fun! You can use a dance party as a reward after cleaning time or when everyone is feeling bummed about being stuck inside. And, if you live in our house, there will definitely be costumes involved 😉

7 – Yoga

Being stuck inside can be stressful for all so taking time to relax and unwind is very beneficial. There are some amazing stretching, yoga and mindfulness apps out there (we’d love to hear your favorites in the comments!). Depending on your child’s age, Cosmic Kids is a great option for yoga together – it’s like a workout during story time!

8 – Dark Safari

Have you heard of a Dark Safari? This is a perfect activity when not knowing what to do with your kids at home! First step, find a whole bunch of stuffed animals. Next, place them around a room (in our case, the basement) so that they are spread out, not completely hidden. Then, equip each of the kids with a flashlight, and maybe some safari gear, and let them explore the dark room. They’ll find their stuffed lions, tigers & bears and have fun finally getting to play with the flashlights!

Check out this colored flashlight pack – they can be here in a matter of days!

9 – GoNoodle Games

We all know that kids love videos so let’s combine that with activity using the GoNoodle Games App! Our elementary school uses GoNoodle for movement breaks but I had no idea until recently that they had the set of games as well! Doesn’t “Flo Yo’s Bubble Pop” sounds like fun?! According to their FREE app description “the NEW GoNoodle Games app features fast-paced mini games that get kids jumping, waving and holding a pose to earn points, dodge obstacles, and have a lot of fun!” Download it today and comment below with your child’s favorite game!

10 – Lip Sync competition

Our final activity to answer the question of what to do with kids at home is to have a full blown Lip Sync competition! We’re talking full costume, dancing, big expressions, all of it! You can even bring in extra judges (aka grandparents) via Facetime or other video conferencing tool and have many categories to score. Winner gets…you decide!

I hope you find some joy in the activities above. We will be going through these ourselves and who knows, maybe there’s a part two in our future. Do you have a favorite that wasn’t mentioned? Comment below!

Thanks for joining us at Slides & Sunshine! Now it’s time to stay inside and PLAY!
