One of the questions I get asked most often is “Which playgrounds have shade?” which makes me excited to share Danny Kendrick Park West with you! This shaded Arvada park is tucked into a neighborhood along the Ralston Creek Trail making it a true hidden gem. The Danny Kendrick Park West (there’s an East park too so make sure you click the address below for the location) was redone within the last few years and is wonderful with its “Pioneer West” theme. I can’t wait for you to check it out!

Address: 7010 Xenon Court, Arvada, CO 80005 The Danny Kendrick Park West playground is tucked between the trees and Ralston Creek trail so you can’t see it well until you walk a few feet. (Note that there is also a Danny Kendrick Park East so make sure you’re heading to the right one 😉 )
Bathroom: No restrooms or portables available.
Shade: YES!! This is one of the most shaded playgrounds we have found in Colorado!
Surface: Rubber pour-in-place surfacing.

Age Recommendations: Danny Kendrick Park West has a little something for all ages! The rubber surfacing makes it easy for young walkers and they will love the wagon to play on. The older kids will enjoy climbing the tall cacti and coming down the open slide.
Swings: None.
Water Features: None at the playground, however, the park is next to Ralston Creek. If you have little ones, please be aware of this so that the kids don’t get too close. Some edges to the creek are quite steep and easy to slip in.

The playground at Danny Kendrick Park West was redone within the last few years as part of Arvada’s “Taking Lasting Care” park renovation projects. By involving the community, a “pioneer west” theme was chosen and this playground delivers! The first unique feature we noticed was the stagecoach wagon. It felt like we were instantly back in time as the kids pretended to pack up their things and get the horses ready!

There is also a tall slide structure with a look and design that fits the theme perfectly! The slide is unique with rollers installed part way down and there are panels to increase the fun (“Wanted” poster, cactus matching game). My oldest loved that there were many obstacles to climb, including the tall green cacti shown below.
As I mentioned above, the Ralston Creek Trail runs along Danny Kendrick Park West providing a natural spot to play and walk or bike. If you follow the path to the west, you’ll discover one of the most impressive space-themed playgrounds in Arvada at Ralston Valley Park!
