Discover, Play and Thrive at Brighton’s New Inclusive Playground!

Brighton has done it again and created a wonderful, new inclusive playground at Donelson Park! The entire play area has easy accessibility, so many sensory panels, a scavenger hunt and a “Universal Swing” making it the perfect spot for all ages and abilities.

Donelson Park Logistics

Address: 4500 Midland St, Brighton, CO 80601

Bathroom: Yes, but it was locked in Jan 2024 when I visited so it may only be open seasonally.

Shade: The play structure has a large canopy, the rest of the play area is uncovered.

Surface: This is a wonderful, inclusive playground with rubber surfacing throughout.

Age Recommendations: This is always a tough one to answer for the top of the age range. There is equipment for ages 2 to 12, however, my opinion would be early walkers to about 10.

Inclusive Features: This new inclusive playground at Donelson Park has many features for all ages and abilities! The ramps below not only lead to a wheelchair accessible rocker, they also are lined with activities and sensory panels. There is also a wide band swing (picture in Unique Features section), low entry merry go round, rubber surfacing and separate music elements.

Swings: You will find 2 traditional belt swings, 1 baby swing and 1 accessible chair swing at Donelson Park.

Water Features: None.

Unique Features of Donelson Park

We absolutely love when scavenger hunts and games are mixed into a playground. It allows kids to play together, create games and races, and is wonderful for the youngest ages too! Donelson Park has the panel below showing spinners to find (like on the pole in the second photo) around the park and it makes the locating more random by spinning first.

Want to visit another fantastic playground in Brighton with a scavenger hunt? Check out Observatory Park! Since the writing of this article, the wood chips have been replaced by themed rubber surfacing.

I saw this “Brava Universal Swing” and had to learn more! It is made by Burke and “redefines swinging as not just simply pumping your legs but using whatever part of your body you’re most comfortable with – arms, core or legs.” It is positioned to allow for low entry from a wheelchair and provides a comforting and calming swing for kids on the autism spectrum.

The panels around Donelson Park provide so much extra fun beyond just swinging and sliding. There is a “Find Something To…” wheel, mazes, games, and a separate musical area.

Surrounding Area Highlights

Donelson Park has a large field for soccer games on the weekends and a full basketball court. The nearby pavilion has 6 tables and a grill – a great spot for a lunch with friends or rentable for birthday parties!

Thanks for joining us at Slides & Sunshine. Now it’s time to get out there and PLAY!

Don’t forget to Pin for later!
