Our “family park tour” began back in 2015 and one of the first playgrounds visited was Carpenter Park in Thornton. I’ll be honest, on that day, the park was overwhelming to me – the playground was spread over a large area and there were a ton of kids playing at the splash pad. However, we were new to the playground scene, I had a less than one-year-old and it was a gorgeous summer day…of course the park would be busy!
I took the girls again this past weekend and it was a much different experience for me. I was able to appreciate the inclusive elements that this playground has and five years later, it is still in great shape! Although going in January meant we couldn’t ride the carousel or rent a paddleboat, we had a wonderful time and would recommend it year round.

We are already looking forward to our tour of splash pads this summer and Carpenter Park in Thornton is on this list! The fountain area is pretty big so make sure to get there early to get a spot in the shade.
**Summers at Carpenter Park also include a Carousel and Paddle Boats on the lake. Closures occurred during summer 2020 so for the latest opening information, check out this link.
Carpenter Park is very inviting with its bright primary colors and open layout. It has many features making it a great inclusive park for all ages and abilities, such as the rubber surface, ramps through the play structure, musical features and sensory panels.
The playground also has many features for the climbing enthusiasts and monkey bar loving kiddos. They’ll love the multiple climbing walls, obstacles for both big and small children, rings to swing on or across and more!
Just up the hill from the playground, you’ll not only find the Carpenter Recreation Center, you’ll also find many outdoor sports! There is fantastic skate park as well as basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts. Looking to make a day of it, bring along your equipment for Bocce ball, horseshoes and even shuffleboard too!
