Visit the “6th Flatiron” at the NEW Chautauqua Park Playground!
It’s time to visit the recently updated playground at Chautauqua Park in Boulder! Not only is there fantastic new equipment, there is so much to do in the area that you’ll find something for the whole family. You’ll also get to experience a cool part of Colorado history! According to Chautauqua.com, “the Colorado Chautauqua is one of only 26 National Historic Landmarks in the state of Colorado and one of the few remaining chautauquas in the United States.”

Chautauqua Park Logistics
Address: Baseline Rd & 9th St, Boulder, CO 80302 (There is no parking next to the playground so park where you can find a spot either in the large parking lot or surrounding neighborhood and walk toward the Dining Hall.)
Bathroom: Yes, there are restrooms on the first floor of the nearby Dining Hall.
Shade: Yes! There are big trees shading the middle of the playground and many shady spots surrounding for picnics.
Surface: Combination of wood chips and rubber surfacing.

Age Recommendations: Chautauqua Park is the perfect location to take your whole family! The playground is great for ages 2 to 10 and there are so many other things to do. Hiking, frisbee, pickleball…all things outdoor fun await!
Swings: 2 traditional swings, 2 baby swings and 1 chair swing.
Water Features: None.

Unique Features of Chautauqua Park
If you’ve been around Boulder, I’m sure you have heard of “the Flatirons” but if you haven’t, the Flatirons are “the striking, slanted, reddish-brown sandstone formations that make up a portion of Boulder’s foothills on the west side of town.” There are officially five named Flatirons so this climbing rock at Chautauqua Park will be known as the “6th Flatiron”. The girls love that it’s an easy climb for all ages and you can sit atop with a friend!
Another unique element was the Chautauqua Playhouse! This adorable, two-story playhouse is adorned with a plaque stating “Built by Bob Cooke and Jennifer Siegel, Father and Daughter, with the help of Girl Scouts Troop 2152”.
And of course we have to mention the “Climbing Tree”! There could be the most amazing play equipment around and my oldest would bypass everything for a good climbing tree. Located right in the middle of the playground, this will for sure be a favorite for all the little climbers.
Surrounding Area Highlights
The area surrounding the Chautauqua Park playground is beautiful! The hiking trails are quite popular though so be prepared for some crowding, especially on the weekends. Check out the City of Boulder website for all of the details and plan your next adventure!
