There are many photo opportunities, like the one pictured below, set up around The Depot for families gathered before or after railbike departure.
Upon arrival, you will check in with the Stationmaster and get your departure details. For the Conductor’s Christmas rides, you will be given an “Adventure Journal” newspaper sharing the history of Colorado Railbike Adventures, additional railroad history, and local business shoutouts. We were also given a Nativity scene ornament for our Christmas tree, a beautiful reminder of our family adventure.
The Depot has many places to enjoy your time together, including a small, turf soccer field, lawn games, covered seating, and even a fire pit to sit around. Plan on some extra time before or after your ride to delight in some hot cider or cocoa too!
I’ve walked through light displays and driven through light tunnels, but there is nothing quite like pedaling by the colorful lights in the dark open air with stars shining overhead. The railbikes are a unique experience all on their own and then you add giant Christmas trees to ride through, Peanuts characters skating nearby, and all of the dazzling trees and strung lights…magic!
The halfway point of your ride provides a place to take a break from pedaling and chat with friends. You can learn about the origins of Santa Claus, Christkindl Markets, and the gift-giving, house-sweeping “Nonna Befana” from the signage and giggle as you place your face in the elf scene cutouts. We learned so much in those few minutes!
The return trip back to the Depot provides many scenes and written verses from the Bible about the origin of Christmas. The illuminated displays are simple and beautiful, ending with the Nativity scene.
