I don’t know about you, but this start to the school year has been tricky. We’ve been online, now we’re a hybrid model, we had a teacher out for a week…it’s been (and continues to be) quite the adjustment! So, when we finally felt like we had a good time to get back to the parks, we wanted it to be a big deal.
We decided on Veterans Memorial Park, the new inclusive playground in Commerce City, and we were more than happy with that choice! The play area was huge, the equipment was colorful and great for all ages, and there was even a nature play area. Keep reading to get all the details and see what this park has to offer!

Address: 6015 Forest Dr, Commerce City, CO 80022
Bathroom: Yes. There is a bathroom building and water fountain available at the northeast corner of the playground.
Shade: A little. There are 3 pavilions with covered picnic tables and a few trees for shade, but overall, most of the playground is unshaded.
Looking for more inclusive playgrounds? Here are our favorites so far!
Age Recommendations: All ages will find something they like at this park! My youngest is 5 and she absolutely loves that there were monkey bars for her height.
Swings: There are two swing sets, one with a baby swing and a chair swing, and the second (shown below) with two traditional swings and two inclusive chair swings.
Water Features: None.
The “We Go Round” is our favorite part of this inclusive playground in Commerce City. You can sit, stand, push, or roll a wheelchair onto this unique merry go round. We first saw one of these at Clement Park and I had a very hard time getting my youngest to leave it!
Veterans Memorial Park is full of unique elements, many with ramp access to be inclusive of all kids and abilities. The rolling bar slide and rocking boat are fun exchanges for the more traditional slides and seesaws.
Panels to learn Braille, mazes to trace with your finger and instruments like those shown below make this inclusive playground a full sensory experience.
The fun at Veterans Memorial Park continues as there is also a nature play area! Just to the northwest, you will find a large sand area (don’t forget to bring along some sand toys and trucks!) . The kids will enjoy the natural climbing features like boulders and hollow logs.
Also nearby is the Veterans Memorial, with a beautiful stone on which is engraved:
"Dedicated to the men and women who served our country in times of peace and war and especially to those who gave their lives"
Built in 1988, this memorial was beautiful to share with the girls. It gave them a chance to ask questions and think about what their service has meant for us all.
We love helping people find amazing places to take the children in their lives! Have you looked around on our Map feature? It’s the perfect way to find your next destination!
Thanks for joining us at Slides & Sunshine! Now it’s time to get out there and PLAY!
