17 Indoor Play Areas Open This Fall in Colorado!

With all of the current restrictions due to COVID, many of us have started wondering if any indoor play areas are open… Will our kids be stuck at home all day when the snow hits?! Good news, no! There are many fantastic places open and ready to see you!

Here is a list of indoor play areas and some kid-friendly activities that are currently available in Colorado. Don’t forget to check their website or call for up to date information about reservations, altered hours, etc.

#1 Kookalooz Space Playground

Address: 6805 W 88th Ave, Westminster, CO 80021

The list starts with a favorite spot of ours to play and attend birthday parties, Kookalooz (previously KidSpace)! This is the perfect spot to take your future astronauts and you’ll love how much they learn as they play. There is a movie theater style planetarium and places for parents to relax, chat or work. #2 WOW! Children’s Museum

Address: 110 N Harrison Ave, Lafayette, CO 80026

If you haven’t been to the WOW! Children’s Museum, it’s time for a visit! My girls all love it (ages 5, 9 and even the 12 year old has fun!). If you’ve been there pre-COVID, one change you’ll notice is that toys and manipulatives (food in the market, Legos, etc) have been removed. Each family is now receiving a WOW! pack of items to use to ensure less cross contamination.

#3 Play Street Museum

Address: 9370 S Colorado Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126 (There’s also a Colorado Springs location)

Oh my cuteness! Play Street Museum is a wonderful place for your littles to play this fall! Designed for ages 1 to 8, this indoor play area “Town Square” will delight their senses and bring out their imagination. They also offer birthday parties and special events, such as fall-themed craft making and pumpkin painting! Full details and reservations can be found here.

Play Street Museum’s website reminds us that “Providing time for our children to have self directed play stimulates their imaginations, encourages them to problem solve, and allows them to refine their social skills – helping them to build a strong framework for a lifetime of learning.”



#4 Kids Dig

Address: 8601 W Cross Dr Unit B6-1, Littleton, CO 80123

“Come Play in Colorado’s Largest Indoor Sandbox with Over 60 Tons of Sand!” With all of the sandboxes slowly disappearing from parks these days, what a perfect concept for kids right now! Kids Dig provides a place to play while socially distanced, and even offers private sand play areas. Check out their website here for reservations or call ahead to check how busy they are. Better yet, if your little loves to dig in the sand, the birthday parties look adorable! Kids Dig is for ages 7 and under, diapers are ok.

#5 Lava Island

Address: 452 Sable Blvd, Aurora, CO 80011

They have a VOLCANO SLIDE!! That’s all it took for me to get excited about visiting Lava Island but there’s so much more! There is the playground (shown above), a trampoline park and themed climbing walls – you pick the section that best fits your family. Reservations are not currently required, however, check their website prior to visiting for any changes and open hours. This is one place where you can play along with your kids or you can enjoy their Starbucks coffee, snacks and free wifi while you watch!

#6 Children’s Museum of Denver

Address: 2121 Children’s Museum Dr, Denver, CO 80211

The Children’s Museum of Denver has reopened, however the hours are limited and reservations fill up quickly. Currently, the Museum is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and sign ups are for 90-minute sessions. Although some exhibits are closed, your kids can still enjoy the Art Studio, Joy Park and the Water exhibit. Toys and art supplies are available for check out to ensure cleaning between guests. More dates continue to open for reservations, and cancellation openings, so check back often at https://www.mychildsmuseum.org/.



#7 Denver Aquarium

Address: 700 Water St, Denver, CO 80211

Ready to go under the sea? The Denver Aquarium is open with a few changes/closures. Sadly, the Mermaid Shows, Carousel and 4D theater are closed for now. However, the main exhibits, restaurant and new Shark Cage Experience, remain open. Click here to make your reservations and plan your underwater adventure.

While you’re there, check to see if Sharkey’s Fun Zone is open! This indoor play area is typically reserved for birthday parties on the weekends, but it is definitely worth the ask when you’re there.

#8 Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Address: 2001 Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80205

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is open once again with a few changes. Reservations are required to ensure the safety of the guests and additional changes can be found at https://www.dmns.org/visit/plan-your-visit-reopening/. Exhibits currently available are “The Art of the Brick” (awesome for your LEGO fans!) and “Dogs! A Science Tail!”. The IMAX has also re-opened with a few show options, however, the Planetarium remains closed for now.

#9 Ninja Nation

Ninja Nation is like a dream for my older daughters, they love watching American Ninja Warrior! We hosted a birthday party there last year and it was a hit among all of their friends.

If you’ve never been, you can sign up for the “Ninja Nation Experience”, an introductory class for your family (ages 5+). You can try out the obstacles like the spider jump, rope swings, and of course, take a trip to the famed warped wall. Open gym times are available for reservation here and there are classes and birthday parties available too.

#10 Kids Wonder

Address: 7562 S University Blvd Suite GG, Centennial, CO 80122

The more I hear about Kids Wonder, the more I think every child will love it! Geared toward ages 0 to 8, this intentional play center is packed with activities that will bring laughter and get their imaginations running. Their pretend town has everything from a schoolhouse to construction zone and there are five large inflatables as well. Parents can enjoy beverages, gift shop and there is even space available for parents to work while the kids play. Check out the Kids Wonder website for hours of operation and to make reservations.

#11 Butterfly Pavilion

Address: 6252 W 104th Ave, Westminster, CO 80020

Butterfly Pavilion is a non-profit invertebrate zoo and a leader in invertebrate knowledge, inspiration and connection. My girls love to walk through and experience the butterflies flying around them! Currently, masks are required for 3+ and reservations can be made online here. You will be provided exclusive access to live animals, invertebrate experts and so much more. Unfortunately, the indoor play area isn’t open at this time.

#12 Archery Games Denver

Address: 5405 W 56th Ave unit d, Arvada, CO 80002

Looking for something completely unique for your family? Have older kids that want to have the best birthday ever? Check out Archery Games Denver and challenge your group to a game of archery dodgeball!



#13 The Playground

Address: 1930 Greeley Mall, Greeley, CO 80631

The play area at The Playground has so much for kids to do! Created for ages 1 to 8, there are the typical slides and jungle gyms, but there are also elements that make it completely unique. Your kids will love dancing in the “Boogie Room”, painting with light in the dark room and building with giant blocks. To celebrate their 5 year anniversary, admission is $5 for an all-day pass, giving you a chance to shop around the mall and come back for more fun! #14 The Summit

Who’s ready for some bowling action?! We recently went to The Summit and had such a great time! All of the areas are open (bowling, arcade, laser tag, restaurant) with the exception of the pool tables. #15 DEFY

Locations:

For the children that love jumping and flying, Defy is open! Unfortunately, the ninja course is closed for now, but there is still plenty of fun to be had. You can jump on the trampolines, swing across, try out a slack line and more. To ensure space is available, you can reserve tickets ahead of time at https://defy.com/.



#16 Hammond’s Candies

Address: 5735 Washington St, Denver, CO 80216

While this isn’t a play area, Hammond’s Candies is a fantastic place to take your kids this fall! Join in a free kid-friendly tour of the candy factory (30 min in length) then find some treats in the candy store. Your whole family will love the interactive tour, especially since it ends with a free candy!

#17 Urban Air

Urban Air is huge! With so many places to play and things to do, everyone will be worn out by the time you leave. Reservations are recommended and currently all areas are open by request. You and your family will enjoy the ropes course, laser tag, climbing walls and indoor playground. Got a little one?
