This Louisville Park Has a Bit of Everything!

I’ll be honest, I don’t enjoy splash pad parks that much as a parent. I think one of the girls slipped once and maybe I am carrying some irrational fears about the slippery concrete? I’m not sure. It’s also a lot more to plan for…you can’t just jump in the car and go…towels…wet car seats… Anyone else with me?

I realized though that I was being kind of a baby about it so I promised the girls we’d find one. We ended up that day at Louisville Community Park and it was a great place to spend a couple hours with friends!

Recommended Ages: All! The splash pad was definitely the favorite part (even though the water was freezing!) where all the kids ended up at some point. For the little ones, there was a train to play in and the older kids liked the rope course and the large rock climbing structure.

Unique Features: I’m honestly not sure what to call this other than a ropes course…it had platforms to climb up to, ropes to climb across and side-less slides to come down. The structure was awesome looking but the girls didn’t love that the dark blue and black parks were extremely hot, even with the clouds.

The large “Acme” mine was fun for climbing and the splash pad was definitely the most popular spot. There was a large sand area at the park as well – it didn’t look like it had been played in much though because it was covered in debris.

Don’t Forget: Plan ahead for the splash pad because even on a cloudy day with very cold water, that’s where our kids spent the most time. You’ll need swimsuits, towels, sunscreen and I’d throw in some water shoes if you have them! Going back and forth between the fountains and the wood chips was rough in flip flops (and even worse barefoot!).

Louisville Community Park is also home to a HUGE dog park (complete with its own pond to splash in) and a gorgeous pond area with a small sculpture walk. When we were there we saw a group of children with nets trying to catch tadpoles – it is a perfect place for little explorers!

We all enjoyed ourselves and I’d definitely recommend it, but having been to so many playgrounds, this one didn’t make a lot of sense to me with what was there. Our favorite parks are those with themes, with consistency, that invoke imagination. Going from a modern ropes course to the old mine to a bright colored train, it didn’t create that flow and felt choppy. We’d love to hear what you think about it! Do you agree?
