Have you ever parked at a playground just to turn around because your child would be unable to play there? That’s a reality for many Colorado parents. Whether it be the wood chips or sand making wheelchair access next to impossible, a lack of ramps or a complicated set of equipment, a truly inclusive playground can be hard to find! “There are over 74,000 kids with disabilities in Colorado and most playgrounds do not give these children an opportunity to experience the fun and joy of being outdoors with their peers.” according to LuBird’s Light Foundation. That is why they took action and raised money to create LuBird’s Light Playground, one of the few inclusive playgrounds in the Denver/Aurora area!
“LuBird’s Light Foundation was founded in honor of little girl named Lucia, affectionately called “LuBird.” Lucia was born with a rare genetic condition called Pallister Killian Syndrome or PKS and is affected from head to toe.” LuBird’s Light Foundation aims to build inclusive playgrounds for children of all needs and support children with rare disabilities. If you’d like to support their cause and bring inclusiveness to more playgrounds, you can donate here.
