With so many new playgrounds in Colorado this year, we were delighted to see Morse Park on the list. Also known as “the original Lakewood Park”, Morse Park was due for an upgrade and with its new medieval theme and inclusive features, it is sure to delight all who come.

Address: 8180 W 20th Ave, Lakewood, CO 80214
Bathroom: There are some portable bathrooms (in really bad shape when we were there) across the parking lot near the pool.
Shade: Yes! Many of my pictures came out dark because of all of the shade trees near the park entrance.
Surface: We loved the colorful rubber surfacing at Morse Park – so fun!
Age Recommendations: All ages, with a caveat 😉 The tall tower has an easily accessible spiral belt climber that makes it look like it is for younger children, however, it is designed for ages 5 to 12. There are openings on the sides that make it risky for those too small or too young.
Inclusive Features: As mentioned above, the spiral belt makes it an easy transfer to go to the tall slide. There are also other inclusive elements, such as sensory panels, easy-to-maneuver rubber surfacing, and ramp to the younger age area.
Swings: There are 2 baby swings, 2 traditional belt swings and a “Friendship Swing” (pictured below).
Water Features: None at the park, however, there is the Morse Pool nearby available for daily admission (late May to mid August).
I love these sunglasses! And, even better when I’m wearing them at the nearby BRAND NEW Quail St Park! If you need great sunglasses that are only $25, polarized, and don’t slip off while enjoying the summer heat, I highly recommend goodr sunglasses!
Here is a closer view of the spiral belt climber inside the slide tower. As you can see, it is a unique take on the typical ladders and stairs, but does leave large enough gaps that young (<5 years) shouldn’t be attempting without supervision.
Morse Park was updated with a medieval theme, complete with a flying dragon on the highest structure. There are flags flying at the park entrance, castle wall panels and a magical feel throughout.
Another favorite feature of Morse Park is the Rollerslide, which creates a unique, sensory-filled experience for kids of all ages.

The entrance to Morse Park is home to Morris the Dragon. To the side of Morris are tributes to those who made donations to the park – thank you to all!
Morse Park is also home to multiple baseball fields, volleyball courts, tennis courts and the Morse Pool. I loved reading all about the history of the park from the fundraising that happened post-World War II (1946 – 1954) to build the pool to the renaming of the park after former Jefferson County Commissioner Carl G Morse.
