Check Out Erie’s Coal Creek Park Playground and Splash Pad!

The people of Erie have been anxiously awaiting the re-opening of Coal Creek Park and today is the day! The grand opening celebration starts tonight (June 16th) at 4:00pm.

Coal Creek Park has gone from a large field to a town gathering location and it is lovely! There is an adorable new splash pad with fountains for all ages, a new playground, and a fantastic pavilion for shaded picnics, concessions and restroom facilities. It is the perfect new addition for Downtown Erie.

This Erie park review is sponsored by our friends at Wurth Chiropractic. At Wurth Chiropractic, Drs. Brynn & Zach try to do things a bit different from your typical chiropractic office. While we specialize in treatments like adjustments & soft tissue work (cupping, dry needling, KT tape, etc.), our best asset is our ability to listen and connect with patients with where they’re at in their health journey. Big treatment rooms & appointment times where you feel heard and not rushed through like a drive-thru restaurant. A different approach to your back, neck and joint pain.

Coal Creek Park Logistics

Address: 575 Kattell St, Erie, CO 80516

Bathroom: Yes, there is a new restroom building installed at Coal Creek Park.

Shade: None over the play features, however there are new large shade structures and picnic tables on the west side of the park.

Surface: The play areas have a combination of turf (hill slides), wood chips (nature play area) and rubber surfacing (rope obstacles).

Age Recommendations: All ages will find something to do at this park! There are musical instruments near the memory walk and hillside slides for the little ones, rope climbing obstacles for the older kids and a huge lawn area for hanging out and town events!

Inclusive Features: The Memory Walk is a separate area of the park to the northeast giving kids a place to play with musical instruments and be apart from the busy playground. There is a low disc-shaped swing, however it is over wood chips.

Playing catch shouldn’t come with a catch… At Wurth Chiropractic, we understand how frustrating it is to deal with pain. It keeps you from doing some of the things you enjoy. Riding your bike, hiking, yoga, etc. Everyone deserves to be able to have the ability to do the things they love free of pain and discomfort. Our goal is to get you out of pain and getting back to doing those things as quickly as possible!

Swings: There are 2 traditional belt swings, 2 baby swings and 1 net disc-shaped swing at Coal Creek Park.

Water Features: YES! The Town of Erie has a brand new splash pad at Coal Creek Park. It has an area with low fountains and an area for older kids with a button nearby to turn everything on. We are in love with the hanging cherries that will drop little buckets of water from above.

**During the winter, the splash pad will be converted to the Town of Erie Ice Rink!

Coal Creek Park Unique Features

The McDaniel family worked with Erie Parks and Recreation to create a beautiful playground in memory of their daughter Maddie. A unique set of butterflies are painted on the sidewalk and this butterfly sculpture with dedication greet you as you enter Maddie’s Playground.

Dr. Zach at Wurth Chiropractic loves helping local athletes and weekend warriors alike to achieve their goals. He is certified through the Titleist Performance Institute to take athletes through movement screenings & offer athletes empowerment to move and feel confident in their sport.

The play areas are not your typical plastic slides and monkey bars. There is a nature play side with logs to climb and then this rope obstacle course side shown below. The rope elements will challenge each child’s balance and strength.

This is a first for us to see…solar powered umbrellas provide USB charging at the splash pad tables! This will be a great spot to hang out as a family all year long.

Memorial Walk

At Coal Creek Park, you fill find a Memorial Walk near the musical instruments to the north east. Names of local children who have passed away are engraved on memorial stones and it provides a beautiful, peaceful location for families to visit. For more information about the Memorial Walk and future fundraising events, please visit maddiesmemory.org.

Before or after your visit to Coal Creek Park, check out all of the great businesses nearby in Downtown Erie! You can grab a bite to eat, do a little shopping or say hello to our friends at Wurth Chiropractic.

Thanks for joining us at Slides & Sunshine. Now it’s time to get out there and PLAY!

Don’t forget to Pin for later!
