Northmoor Sensory Playground (and a bonus playground too!)

You may read this title and think “What makes a playground a sensory playground?” Or, maybe your child needs a sensory playground and you’ve been searching for more options. This was a new term for me a few years ago, here’s what I found…

A sensory playground provides a solution for children on the spectrum.  Specifically designed to meet their needs, a sensory playground offers ASD children the type of sensory input they’re most comfortable with, while fostering enhanced motor skills, balance and coordination.

There are many aspects that make up a sensory playground, including more space between equipment, areas/panels for individual play, and a focus on nature.

Make sure to read until the end to find a *bonus playground* for little ones!

Northmoor Playground Logistics

Address: 1335 Birch St, Broomfield, CO 80020

Bathroom: Yes, there is a building near the playground parking lot.

Shade: Canopies provide shade over the playground and there are fantastic trees nearby to picnic under!

Age Recommendations: Ages 2 to 12 will enjoy this playground. The older kids will like climbing high in the star rope climber and the outlying activities. The younger children will love the playhouse, dragonfly seesaw and monkey bars they can actually reach!

Northmoor Sensory Playground Features

The play structure at Northmoor is short in height but contains a lot! The favorite feature among our group is definitely the rolling slide.

In addition to the many small slides, there are musical elements, high single bar, sensory elements and adorable extras like a toadstool table.

How high can you climb?

Surrounding Area Highlights: A large sand area sits to the east of the playground and there is a large pavilion with shaded tables. Broomfield’s Northmoor Park also has tennis and basketball courts, soccer fields and a baseball diamond.

BONUS PLAYGROUND!

Secret playground alert! If you take the path from the Northmoor Sensory Playground north along the tennis courts, you will find this new playground too!

With its tree stump steps, hollow log and adorable frog to climb, your kids will be enchanted. Designed for ages 2 to 5, this nature themed structure is worth the extra steps.
