The HIGHEST town playground in North America!
The town of Alma, Colorado is registered at 10,578 ft (!!) making it the highest incorporated town in North America. So, what did I have to do? See if there was a park of course! The Alma Park & Playground sits next to Town Hall and had such beautiful mountain views. It was June and still so much snow! Address: 59 Buckskin St, Alma, CO 80420 (Parking is at Town Hall) Recommended Ages: All! While the playground might not be huge, there are high monkey bars that are a favorite for my oldest, and there is also a skate park and basketball court. Your littles will enjoy the slides, bouncing…

Treasure to be found in Silverthorne!
Whether you live in the mountains, plan a weekend trip or are just passing through, knowing where some great playgrounds are along the way is a must when you have kids. We came across Trent Park the last time we visited Silverthorne and the girls loved it! Address: 100 Willowbrook Rd, Silverthorne, CO 80498 Recommended ages: My opinion, ages 8 and under. This is an adorable structure but doesn’t have many thrills for the older kids. Unique Features: The Pirate theme to this park was well done complete with a ship, telescope, and treasure map. The feature that continues to be our favorite at a lot of newer parks though…

Fun for all in Erie!
We have lived in Erie for 15 years now and, oh my goodness, it has grown so much! I couldn’t create this blog without sharing a family favorite – the playgrounds at the Erie Community Center! Address: 450 Powers St, Erie, CO 80516 (Note that this is for the building, the playgrounds are on the north side on the parking lot, near the baseball fields.) Recommended Ages: All! There are two separate playgrounds, with sections specifically made for 2 to 5 year olds and others designed for ages 5 to 12. Unique Features (for ages 2 to 5): My youngest loves the train area and always chooses to eat her…

Calling all Lil’ Firefighters in Arvada!
The Arvada Volunteer Fire Fighters Park is one of our favorites because it is so true to its theme and is a great place to meet friends. The park has so many elements that scream firefighter that there’s nothing left to do but pretend to be some! Address: 9190 W 84th Ave, Arvada, CO 80005 Unique Features: We loved that the monkey bars were ladders, there were bells to ring and poles to slide down. There’s a three story tall covered slide that added some thrill and many different ways to climb up the structure. What to bring: The park has a large pavilion (available to rent here) that has…

Northern Lights Park, For All the Baseball Fans in Thornton!
Baseball lovers of Colorado, let me introduce you to Northern Lights park! This playground is located in Thornton at 13800 York St, Thornton, CO 80241 and is surrounded by the Northern Lights ball fields. Recommended Ages: ALL! We loved this park because there really was something for everyone. (Disclaimer: the sign says it was designed for kids ages 5 to 12, however almost all of the kids there were under 5 and having a great time.) Accessibility: There are ramps throughout the structure making it easy for everyone to participate and play. There were also games & learning signs throughout the structure with mazes to solve, a matching game and…

This Broomfield Park is Perfect for the Little Ones!
I get asked all the time about park recommendations and hands down, this is my FAVORITE if you have small children (under age 6). It is called Crofton Park! It was completely redone a few years ago so the equipment is beautiful and made with such attention to detail! Address: 3432 W 125th Dr, Broomfield, CO 80020 Only downside is that there isn’t a bathroom nearby so might not be the place to go when potty training, unless you’re taking one of these along 😉 Unique Features: The park has so many unique features with my favorite being the building blocks instead of ladders or stairs. They’ve also made such…

Hidden Gem in Lyons!
Just into the Colorado foothills in the small town of Lyons, you will find a true hidden gem of a park! LaVern M. Johnson park was not just a playground, it was a DESTINATION so plan to stay there for at least a few hours and invite friends along! Address: 600 Park Dr, Lyons, CO 80540 Unique Features: Where do I begin?? There is so much to this park that kids of all ages will enjoy! What struck me first was the whimsical feel to the play house and other play structures. It brings out so much imagination with who built the house and there is so much included outside…

Broomfield, What’s a Nature Play Area??
Last fall, a brand new park opened in Broomfield, Colorado so of course we had to check it out! McKay Lake Nature Play Area is one of the most creative playgrounds we’ve seen! Address: 2301 W 138th Ave, Broomfield, CO 80023 Recommended ages: Elementary (playground & small bike park) through High School (large bike park https://broomfield.org/BikePark) Do you have kids under the age of 6? What you should know is that your kids will enjoy the park but that it isn’t the kind of place where you sit and they go play. It is amazing and creative, however, there are many parts of the park where you will lose sight…

How it all began…
“Hi! I’m Leslie, Leslie Knope from the Parks Department.” I think that’s where it truly began… A television character inspired me and I began to embrace a love of all things Parks and Recreation. More specifically though, four years ago I was about to spend my first summer as a work from home mom with three girls ages 7, 4 and 8 months. I was CLUELESS on how to spend all that time out of school without spending a fortune finding fun activities! Then inspiration hit and, in true Leslie Knope fashion, we came up with our #parktour, a mission to find the coolest playgrounds in the area! The girls…
