By far, the most common question I get asked is “Can you recommend a good park with shade?”. Sadly, this is a tough one to answer! There just aren’t that many great playgrounds covered in shade in Colorado. However, there are a few, and Waneka Lake Park is my favorite to recommend!

Bathroom: Yes, there is a bathroom available near the lake.
Shade: YES! Best feature of Waneka Lake is that it has a park with huge trees and lots of shade!
Age Recommendations: All ages can enjoy Waneka Lake Park! There is a play structure for toddlers, larger structure for older kids, a fitness loop and more.
Swings: There are 4 traditional swings and 2 baby swings. Isn’t the shade amazing?!
Water Features: No water play features at the playground. However, Waneka Lake is beautiful and just a short walk away.

My girls absolutely love Waneka Lake Park and it always seems to be a Fall timed destination for us. The trees provide the shade but we also get to experience the changing leaf colors as well. Some of our favorite features are the lake cabin themed play structures and giant climbable fish. There is also a standing seesaw, tall spiral slide, alligator bouncer and climbing wall!
My youngest daughter loves all things climbing and “challenges” so this curvy wall is one of the first places she runs to!
There are so many ways to enjoy Waneka Lake Park! There is a 1.2 mile fitness loop around the lake, a disc golf course, basketball, baseball, field for soccer… There’s even fishing!
