Fairgrounds Park has a Splash Pad, Extra Playground and More!

I was blown away on our visit to Fairgrounds Park this summer! I knew that it had a splash pad, but I had no idea that we’d find playgrounds, a fitness zone, batting cages…the list goes on and on as you’ll see below. Plan on spending hours in the area and don’t forget your swimsuits, towels, sunscreen and water!

NOTE: This is a large park with a running river and splash pad so it is not a park that you can just let your kids go play. You will need to keep eyes on kids of all ages and experience it together, safely.

Address: 700 S Railroad Ave, Loveland, CO 80537

Bathroom: Yes, there are nice bathroom facilities available.

Shade: Yes! There is a huge pavilion between the splash pad and playground covering many picnic tables and a large sand play area. The playground is unshaded, however, with the splash pad, nearby river and sand play, the playground wasn’t very utilized.

Surface: The playground has wood chips and a “stream” of rubber surfacing.

Age Recommendations: This is tricky… There are many great features of Fairgrounds Park for little ones, mainly the giant, shaded sand play area, however, you need to keep an eye on them! Not far from the sand is an entrance to the quick-moving Big Thompson River (see below). Even with my older kids, it was moving too quickly to not feel some apprehension letting them play in the river.

Fairgrounds Park Splash Pad

This is a popular place! It was tough to get pictures with so many kids running around so know that this splash pad is quite large and a lot of fun! My kiddos spent the most time trying to fit under the “water umbrella”, shown in the photo below.

These sunglasses are my absolute favorite for hot days! They are inexpensive, polarized and don’t slip off when you get a little sweaty. Get your pair of goodr sunglasses today!

Fairgrounds Park Playground

The playground near the splash pad and river entrance has an amazing set of obstacles to climb through! There are spinners, monkey bars, and many features to test your balance. Also found at this playground were swings (2 traditional, 2 baby and 1 disc), boulders to climb and a blue river made of rubber surfacing running through the park.

Extra Baseball-themed Playground!

If you’re like me, you often take a wrong turn at some point trying to locate the park, and in this case, it led us to a bonus playground! I love a good theme so rather than continuing on, I had to stop to see the giant baseball and bat. The play equipment includes a toddler structure, many monkey bar options and one spiral, tube slide.

Big Thompson River

A unique aspect of Fairgrounds Park is its proximity to the Big Thompson River. There is a nice area to sit with your feet in the water, but you can also wade through the rocks, go in the deep water or ride in a tube down the river. Be aware though, the water is swift moving and not for young ones to try standing in on their own.

Fairgrounds Park Fitness Zone

Have you tried out one of these fitness parks? They are such a great way to get in a great workout while outside!

Fairgrounds Park Skate Park and More!

Fairgrounds Park is truly a park that has something for everyone! There is an (older) skate park, a dog park, basketball courts, baseball/softball fields, batting cages, and everything shown above. It is also the location for many town events, farmer’s markets, etc. For all of the latest, as well as pavilion rental information, check out: https://www.lovgov.org/services/parks-recreation/parks-facilities/parks-reservation-spaces/fairgrounds-park.

Check for needles. I used to bring my kids to this park frequently until the time we showed up and there was a body print in the sand from someone sleeping under the canoe. Tons of transients using the covered area. Cigarette butts everywhere. It’s a a shame because it’s a good bike ride from my house but I don’t want to risk a fentanyl exposure for my kids.

I’m so sorry to hear that you had a bad experience! I was there on an extremely crowded day and didn’t notice any issues, but I appreciate you sharing this for others that may go.
