Hidden Gem in Lyons!

Just into the Colorado foothills in the small town of Lyons, you will find a true hidden gem of a park! LaVern M. Johnson park was not just a playground, it was a DESTINATION so plan to stay there for at least a few hours and invite friends along!

Address: 600 Park Dr, Lyons, CO 80540

Unique Features: Where do I begin?? There is so much to this park that kids of all ages will enjoy! What struck me first was the whimsical feel to the play house and other play structures. It brings out so much imagination with who built the house and there is so much included outside of just slides, like the rock climbing side, fireman pole inside, triangle shaped windows and rope bridge.

What to Bring: I am sure that you will be there for a while so take lunches, snacks and drinks. We went on a warm day so Rehydrate was an absolute must! I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of shady areas between the picnic areas and well established trees but plenty of time can be spent by the creek and hiking around so don’t forget sunscreen.

There is a large field and some smaller grassy areas so taking along sports equipment would be a great addition (soccer, football, bocce ball). You can also kayak or tube down the river in the summer, go fly fishing and play in many water features so taking some clothes/shoes that can get wet (or an extra set of dry clothes 😉 ) would make for even more of an adventure!

Guess what?! There’s even ICE SKATING here during the winter!

Birthday or Reunion coming up? This would be such a great place for a family gathering! If you would like more information about reserving one of the shelters, click here. For a longer stay, check out there camping options as well!

Parking: There is a large parking area by the campsite and some spots as you get closer to the playground. Note that there is a cost for parking ($5 for 4 hours) so find the kiosk to print the ticket for your car window.
