New Westminster Playground Takes “Nature Play” to the Next Level!

I have been impatiently waiting for this new Westminster playground to open and I’m so excited to say that the day is here! “Nature Playgrounds” have been popping up all over Colorado, but the Westminster Station Playground is taking it to a whole new level! One aspect that I found particularly exciting was the focus on accessibility and inclusiveness. The large treehouses and bridges between are wheelchair-friendly and the future water feature will be accessible by all ages and abilities as well! Address: 3501 Creekside Drive, Westminster, CO 80221

Bathroom: There are large (nice!) restrooms available under the large pavilion which include baby changing stations. (They will not be open at the grand opening but should be in the next few weeks.)

Shade: The treehouse structures provide shade, as well as the large covered pavilion. Many trees have been planted to increase the amount of shade as the years go by.

Surface: Wood chips primarily, with a large sand play area and grass between.

There is a large Stegosaurus fossil to uncover in the sandbox! Water will bubble out of this rock providing even more sand play fun.

Check out these great gift ideas!

Age Recommendations: All ages will enjoy this park! **A note for parents of many children or wandering toddlers…this is a very large play area with a creek running behind it so stay together and set a meeting place right when you arrive.

Swings: None.

Water Features: Yes! There will be running water for summer 2022! There will also be a water feature in the sand play area.

Unique Features

This new Westminster playground is completely unique from all others in the city! The main “attraction” is definitely the string of treehouses, fully accessible, that take you from the playground to the pavilion.

Another unique feature at Westminster Station Nature Playground is the log and rope structure. There is a barrel to climb through, rope nets to maneuver, balance steps and so many other obstacles to conquer!

Check out these concrete slides! Surprisingly, these are nice to go down and the kids will love them.

Surrounding Area Highlights

The Little Dry Creek trail runs just north of the playground providing an easy way to access the park and experience even more nature!

What do you think about these new nature playgrounds popping up across Colorado? Do your kids prefer them or the more traditional monkey bars and swings? Leave us a comment below – we’d love to hear from you!

Thanks for joining us at Slides & Sunshine. Now it’s time to get out there and PLAY!

Don’t forget to Pin for later!

  • I appreciate your detailed review and pictures, makes me even more excited to visit than I already was! I’ve noticed that the kids I nanny really enjoy when playgrounds mix Nature play and more traditional play equipment (they love those swings and slides!). The girls I work with now are super into imaginative play. Therefore having a variety of things to play on (i.e. rocks, stumps, trees hills and play structures) and also manipulate (loose parts like branches, stones and pine cones) help set the stage for hours of creative fun. When it comes to slides, they seem to particularly enjoy hill slides that offer multiple ways of getting up (ropes, vertical logs, etc). Some of their favorite playgrounds in Boulder that blend nature play and standard equipment are Sleeping Bear Playground at Chautauqua Park, the Boulder Public Library playground, and Christiensen Park.
