The question I’m asked more than any other when talking about playgrounds…”is there shade?” For this reason, I am listing Arapahoe Ridge Park first! The large trees surrounding the playground provide shade for picnics and can cover the equipment during part of the day. Arapahoe Ridge is also a favorite park because it has a nautical theme! Upon seeing the sailing ship, treasure chest and shark swimming below, your children will go into instant character as ship captain or pirate.

All of the equipment was replaced in 2020 at Crescent Park and it is a hit! Half of the playground has more traditional equipment with slides, swings and spinners, but the other half is a 7-piece challenge course! Little ones will love to play on the turf, your older kids and teens will run the course for the exercise and skill, and you might love trying it too! Erie Community Park is a gem right in the heart of Erie and has something for the whole family. There are now three play areas, new bike pump track, basketball courts, baseball fields, a quarter mile walking loop, multipurpose/soccer fields, and a skate park! Large pavilions provides restrooms and are rentable to host your next family gathering, birthday party, or end of season event. If you’re looking for a spot to cool off on those hot summer days, look no further than Lehigh Park! Currently the only splash pad in Erie so it can get crowded, but it is fun no matter when you go. There is a great playground with ramps, various obstacles, climbing boulder and has the rubber surfacing for early walkers and easier accessibility. Be prepared to find wet slides during splash pad hours though as the kids love to run back and forth between the playground and fountains.

Clayton Park in Erie was an instant favorite because of its tall slide structure. Not only is it a thrill coming down, it is quite a feat as the only way to get there is through a high rope maze! Did I mention that it also has two ziplines?! The play structure, hillside slide, climbable boulders and zipline will keep the kids interested for a while so go with a few friends and enjoy your time there too! There is a large pavilion, multiple small tables and cubes to sit on, and a gorgeous mountain view. Serene Park is home to the first outdoor fitness park in Erie! I love this feature as adults can enjoy some exercise while the kids have a great time on the playground. The play equipment at Serene Park has a very natural feel with a treehouse-style structure for ages 2 to 5, a wooden bumblebee bouncer, log and rope obstacles, and a hillside slide with mountain views. It is a beautiful, peaceful spot!

One of our first favorite parks to find in Erie was Longs Peak Park and it continues to be one we visit over and over. The most unique feature is the Scavenger Hunt! There is a panel on the play structure showing 10 items to be found throughout the park (ie a frog, flower, and pickle) and it becomes a race to find all. Each item is a small colored oval attached to the equipment and can sometimes be a bit tricky to locate. I also recommend Longs Peak Park for the sports fields, accessible chair swing and view of Longs Peak. Talk about a great themed playground! Star Meadows Park has a climbable moon, a place to learn about the phases of the moon and a spot to become a human sundial. The equipment is a different style than any other in Erie, and if you go during non-school hours, you can play on the nature-themed playground at Meadowlark K-8 school as well!
Two “secrets” to know before you go…one, there is small button by the moon phase statue to turn on a mister to help you cool down and two, the sidewalk sparkles like stars if you go late in the evening. 😉 For full review and additional pictures, visit https://slidesandsunshine.com/starmeadows-erieco/.

The playground is small at Reliance Park, however, it is the perfect spot if you’re taking the pups along! The Boneyard is a fantastic dog park with a large area for them to get exercise and socialize. For rules and hours open, please visit here for the most up to date information. The playground has 1 baby swing, 1 traditional swing, bouncers and a small play structure, and there is also a baseball field if you want to bring along your equipment to practice.

Erie Parks and Recreation recognized that the equipment at Country Fields was needing an upgrade so the playground was recently replaced! There is equipment for all ages, including swings, monkey bars, obstacles, and all with a “country fields” feel.
