River Park, the Best Playground in Breckenridge!

A handful of friends have said that we must visit River Park “the best playground in Breckenridge” and I’m so grateful they did! In one word…Amazing! It’s “ice castle” play structures and river themed design provide a nature-inspired park for locals and tourists alike. This is truly a playground for all ages and it is currently being expanded to include a bike park too (see bottom of post for a sneak peek)!

Bathroom: Yes! There is a nice building with running sinks. The pavilion also has a drinking fountain (closed for summer 2020) and a water bottle fill station.

Shade: None over the playground, however, there are 4 picnic tables in the shade of the pavilion.

Age Recommendations: All! The play area is split into two sections, a trout-themed obstacle course and slide for ages 2 to 5 and the large logs and play structure for ages 5+.

For all who love swings, there are two regular, 1 baby and 1 accessible chair swing.

Another fun feature for the younger ages is the sand area with its three (as my daughters call them) “diggers”.

River Park Unique Features

The large log obstacle course is a major component in our girls deciding it is the best playground in Breckenridge. The balance beam aspect and rope nets kept them both entertained and challenged. We love the animal carvings in the wood as well, such a great finishing touch!

Another favorite feature is the incredibly designed play structure and slide! River Park, made with Earthscape products, uses colors to match the snow, ice and sky of the surrounding mountains. The first floors are accessible through log steps and stumps and there is both a short slide and very tall curved slide. Children can only reach the tall slide by using the climbing wall shown below – not for the faint of heart!

I almost forgot to mention this obstacle course on the backside of the slide! The amount of challenges in this playground make it the perfect spot for your little ninja warriors to practice.

Surrounding Area Highlights

Phase 2 of the River Park development includes a bike park! There is still a lot of dirt as I’m writing this, however, the ramps, tunnel and wavy paths give us a view of how amazing it will be. Stay tuned and, if you see it finished before we do, let us know!

Can you spot the tunnel being installed on the far right?! This is going to be awesome!

Just a short walk from the playground, you will find Blue River rushing along and the Blue River Bikeway. Families can spot the playground as they continue along the path and find the perfect place to rest (and play! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
