This Expansive Lakewood Park will Delight All Ages

Built in 2017, Carmody Park became Lakewood’s first “universal playground”. After visiting, I can agree, there is something for everyone!

It is an imaginative place that stimulates creative play and healthy physical activity, and includes features such as mounds, ramps and structures that children of all ages and abilities can play in.

Address: 2200 S Kipling St, Lakewood, CO 80227

Bathroom: There is a restroom building with drinking fountains and fillable dog bowl.

Shade: There is very little shade over the playground. There are a few covered tables to sit, but otherwise it is a great park for spring and fall and will get quite hot on summer days.

Want to visit another incredible playground just 15 minutes away?! Check out Paco Sanchez Park – it has the most amazing vintage microphone-shaped play structure!

Age Recommendations: The playground equipment will be enjoyed by ages 2 to 10. Older kids and adults will love the additional amenities such as the fitness equipment, basketball court and paved walking/bicycle paths.

Swings: Yes! You will find a large variety of swings at this Lakewood park including 5 traditional, 1 accessible chair swing, 1 disc-shaped swing, 1 baby swing and one “expression swing” (where parent can swing while facing baby).

Water Features: None. However, there is an outdoor pool and splash pad at the nearby Carmody Recreation Center. Click here for hours and price information.

Unique Features of Carmody Park

There is so much to love about Carmody Park’s playground! This may seem like a silly thing to be excited about, but we appreciate the rubber surfacing throughout the play area. It makes it easier for all ages and abilities to access the equipment.

The main focus of Carmody Park is that it be “universal”.

Every piece of play considers all-inclusive abilities from the music pod, sand play diggers and fossil discoveries, a basketball court with painted games, sensory play center, hill climbers, and adventure rocks and more. Play structures like the lily pad stepper, split log beam, dynamic surfer and cozy dome are sure to create wonder and awe, and even bring out the kid in all of us.

Surrounding Area Highlights

Running along the edge of the play area is a fitness zone! This variety of equipment is sure to give you a full workout while the kids play.

Also available to all is a basketball court (with painted games to play while the court isn’t occupied) and fields for both football and soccer.
