Trains and a Troll in Breckenridge!

We only spent a couple hours in Breckenridge this past week, but what we found was worth the trip! The High Line Railroad Park and Train Museum was a hit among all of the kids. Not only was the playground amazing with its giant train structure and water tower slide, it also had an indoor train museum AND real trains! (Keep reading, there is also a giant Troll to be found nearby!) Address: 189 Boreas Pass Rd, Breckenridge, CO 80424 Age Recommendations: My thought, 4 and above. We were there with an almost two year old and while she could walk through the play train, most of the features were…

Climb the Moon at Star Meadows Park in Erie!

For my science loving 8 year old, this was high on her list to visit once she heard it had a moon theme! The girls loved that they could try climbing the moon, there were moon rocks to spin and a statue near the benches even showed the different phases of the moon. They also thought it was fun following the spiral path to be a human sundial! There was no shade on the playground but there is a large section of covered tables if you need a break from the sun. Also good to know, there is a portable bathroom right by the parking lot! Address: Flatiron Meadows Blvd,…

Most Adorable Park in Golden (and fun for big kids too!)

Oh my goodness, after visiting 4 other parks in Golden, Maple Grove Park took the prize for best of the day! This park was recently redone and is absolutely adorable. What I loved most as a parent is that the park is like two semi circles (little kids on one half, big kids on other half) and a perfect SHADED set of benches and table in the middle. I could see all of the kids no matter where they were playing! Address: 14600 W 32nd Ave, Golden, CO 80401 Age Recommendations: 0 to 12 years. This park is perfect for very young kids with bright colors and separate play area.…

Dual Zipline for the Win in Thornton!

If you live anywhere near Thornton, or even if you don’t, you have got to check out Amber Creek Park! It was recommended to me by a friend that lives in that area and she wasn’t kidding when she said it was amazing! Address: 6745 E 134th Ave, Thornton, CO 80602 Recommended Ages: All kids will enjoy this park! There is a more traditional play structure with slides, a disc swing, baby swings and spinners for the little ones. My older kids went straight for the dual zipline and rock climbing! Unique Features: The side by side ziplines were definitely our favorite part. The girls raced each other, tried sitting…

Snow Cones, Splash Pad and Fun in Northglenn!

Just off of I-25 and 120th, you’ll find E.B. Rains Jr Memorial Park. The playground is large with areas for toddlers and big kids, a sand pit and a lot of room for hanging out. We’ve been to this park a couple times now and, unfortunately, every time it has been pretty crowded (it’s a popular spot for summer camp groups). My advice is to choose a central spot to leave your snacks & drinks and then keep a close eye on your kiddos. Anyone that listens to me talk about parks knows that I’ll always be on the lookout for restrooms. How that isn’t a requirement for all large…

    My favorite sunscreen!

Let’s talk about sunscreen for a minute… It wasn’t until a couple summers ago that I stopped despising children’s sunscreen. When I think back to the stickiness, the white pastey look to their skin, the constant shaking of the bottles to get it to come out…it makes me shiver! We tried sprays but the girls hated when it would get near their eyes and somehow we’d always miss streaks of skin. All of that changed when we ran out of sunscreen on a trip to Florida and had to purchase some from the gift shop…Hallelujah! We FINALLY found a sunscreen lotion that we all loved! I am truly not just…

This Louisville Park Has a Bit of Everything!

I’ll be honest, I don’t enjoy splash pad parks that much as a parent. I think one of the girls slipped once and maybe I am carrying some irrational fears about the slippery concrete? I’m not sure. It’s also a lot more to plan for…you can’t just jump in the car and go…towels…wet car seats… Anyone else with me? I realized though that I was being kind of a baby about it so I promised the girls we’d find one. We ended up that day at Louisville Community Park and it was a great place to spend a couple hours with friends! Address: 955 Bella Vista Dr, Louisville, CO 80027…

3 Reasons to Check Out This School Playground in Arvada!

The other day I posed a question to friends about who has the best elementary school playground and Sierra Elementary was one of the first to come up. Nestled in a neighborhood in Arvada (near 80th, between Kipling & Simms), we were not led astray…it was impressive! Address: 7771 Oak St, Arvada, CO 80005 It’s New! This playground was just completely updated making it new, exciting and full of fun equipment! The girls and I were instantly in awe of the playground structures, rainbow sun catchers and the overall size of the play area. Obstacle Course Fun! For most of the time we were there, the kids designed and ran…

    Favorite park in Brighton!

The girls and I took a day trip to Brighton, CO and visited 5 parks – it was a bit ambitious for sure! After all was said and done though, a clear favorite was shared by us all… Brighton Park is farm-themed and sits just north of the Brighton Recreation Center. The girls were in awe as we drove up and I had to pull them away when it was time to leave! Address: 555 North 11th Ave, Brighton, CO 80601 Recommended Ages: All! Any kid that enjoys playgrounds will find something here. The ramps and adorable farm animals make it perfect for the littles, and the three story slides…

The HIGHEST town playground in North America!

The town of Alma, Colorado is registered at 10,578 ft (!!) making it the highest incorporated town in North America. So, what did I have to do? See if there was a park of course! The Alma Park & Playground sits next to Town Hall and had such beautiful mountain views. It was June and still so much snow! Address: 59 Buckskin St, Alma, CO 80420 (Parking is at Town Hall) Recommended Ages: All!
