Sandstone Ranch: Adventure Playground and Wheels Park
Upon entering Sandstone Ranch Park, you are greeted with a sign sharing that it is an “Adventure Playground and Wheels Park”. What a fun sounding experience ahead! Our first few times visiting Sandstone Ranch were for our school’s 100 Mile Club. The 0.7 mile path was perfect to get in some extra miles, but it was the promise of the “cow and turtle playground” that got the girls moving. As you’ll see below, the park is not only home to traditional playground equipment, it also has a farm themed toddler area, splash pad and skate park! NEW Inclusive Playground in Commerce City!
I don’t know about you, but this start to the school year has been tricky. We’ve been online, now we’re a hybrid model, we had a teacher out for a week…it’s been (and continues to be) quite the adjustment! So, when we finally felt like we had a good time to get back to the parks, we wanted it to be a big deal. We decided on Veterans Memorial Park, the new inclusive playground in Commerce City, and we were more than happy with that choice! The play area was huge, the equipment was colorful and great for all ages, and there was even a nature play area. Keep reading…

UPDATE FEB 2021: Sadly, the man-made forest structures have been taken down. The playground is great and there are still many trails for walking and biking as you’ll read in our review from summer 2020… Two town playgrounds were chosen for an update this year and Keith Helart Park in Louisville was one of the lucky winners! While the playground isn’t huge, it has wonderful new equipment, large amounts of shade AND a secret forest that will bring out the imagination in us all. Greeley’s Inclusive Playground Provides Fun for All!
Have you visited an “inclusive playground”? Chances are that the playgrounds near you are “ADA compliant” but there still aren’t many features made for kids of all abilities to enjoy. I love Aven’s Village in Greeley because it is truly inclusive, in other words, designed for ALL. The rubber flooring and ramps allow easy access for wheelchairs, the chair zipline and swings give everyone a turn, and the overall feel of the park is happy and playful. Aven’s Village at the Island Grove Regional Park joins our list of best themed playgrounds in Colorado. Its “Old West” theme shines through in every direction you turn and it is absolutely worth…

Northmoor Sensory Playground (and a bonus playground too!)
You may read this title and think “What makes a playground a sensory playground?” Or, maybe your child needs a sensory playground and you’ve been searching for more options. This was a new term for me a few years ago, here’s what I found… A sensory playground provides a solution for children on the spectrum. Specifically designed to meet their needs, a sensory playground offers ASD children the type of sensory input they’re most comfortable with, while fostering enhanced motor skills, balance and coordination. Fun Factory Sensory Gym There are many aspects that make up a sensory playground, including more space between equipment, areas/panels for individual play, and a focus…
